As most of you would probably know by know, P1 Wimax is one of the new ISP provider in Malaysia. I had to wait around 6 months just for it to cover at my area. I heard a lot of good and bad reviews or feedbacks about Wimax so here is my take.
Lets start from the moment I went to their reseller..
I called the customer service asking whether they can send someone to do a speed test at my house. He said I can but need to call the nearest reseller first, so he gave me the number. Called them up and I was surprised that this lady told me that I need to go there, which is around Giant or Kompleks PKNS to pick up the modem myself. I saw some agents in forums that they are able to come to your house and test the speed. But anyway, I asked my friend and he told me that there is a small Wimax booth near my area.
I went there around 11 am. The booth was still not open. So I went back. I went there around at 12 pm, still not open. Disappointed, I went back home. Around 1 pm, I went there for the last time. Fortunately, it was open by the time I reach there! The promoters was still setting up the booth. But what do I care, I just want my internet. I approached them and start asking some question.
Here’s the thing. There was these 2 female promoters. Both of them was not wearing Wimax shirt or any indication that they are Wimax promoters. What kind of marketing is this? Not only that, they didnt have the adequate knowledge about Wimax when I ask them questions. Even I know better than them. At one point, I was arguing with one of them on the data cap (To put it simple, it is limit amount the data that you can download/upload before they slow down your internet to make it fair with other users. You can still online just not that fast).
So I got my box and reach home. I didnt have to pay anything for it. The registration is free. They have a 15 money back gurantee policy of which if you didnt use up to 10GB of data, there wont be any handling fees when you return back the modem should you are not satisfied with it. If you exceed the 10GB cap, you need to pay RM50. Its a good thing. But note that if you continue using, all the charges such as registration fee and what not will be included in your first bill. I’m still a bit blur on this but I will call the customer service to clarify it.
Here is what can you expect when you open the box. And I am very sorry for the bad quality picture as my room has poor lighting.
All the ‘ingredients’ were pack nicely.
The modem is not that big. If only they have coverage all around Malaysia, I wouldnt mind caring it around. But you need a plug to power it up. So not much mobility there.
Everything else inside the box. I really like the Ethernet cable. It the same as the regular cable but the cable it self is very thin. Kind of like your belt, just smaller version.
Now for the speed and stability. What can I say is that if you’re use internet for Facebook-ing, Youtube-ing, Google-ing or in other word, normal surfer, the speed is really good. It doenst take more than 5 seconds to open any website. You dont have to wait for Youtube to load. You can just click on it and watch it straight away.
For the heavy users; lets start with downloading. I have an example of downloading using torrent:
Click to enlarge if you cannot see it properly.
Such speed I can achieve if there are enough seeders. Pretty fast right?
Here is an example of direct download.
For gaming: I didnt really get the chance to test online gaming. But for Dota using Garena, I tried once and I get around 1 second delay. My ping is quite high. Wireless broadband is not that stable yet so you get the idea. I will update about online gaming when I have more games install in my laptop.
As of now its been almost 1 week I’m using Wimax. I’m very satisfied with the service. There are several disconnections when I’m surfing and all but it will quickly reconnect back and you’re online again. I get green light always in my area. Even during the rain, the speed is still fast.
Frankly speaking, I’m really glad that I switch to Wimax from Maxis USB Broadband, though I havent terminate my account with Maxis yet. No time. Honestly, dont ever register for Maxis USB Broadband. Speed is slower than dial up, disconnections frequently and unreliable customer service. I’m still waiting for my first bill just to see how much I need to pay.
So all and all, P1 Wimax is great but not perfect. There are some small improvements that can be done but I’m pretty sure they are working on it. I recomend everyone to use it but please check whether your area have coverage or not. If you install and they havent cover your area, dont blame me or them, its your own fault for not doing your homework first.
I end with “Seteresssss”~ :P
